My new Spitbank Fort Bird’s Eye View poster is perfect for anyone wanting to keep a little memory of this fascinating fort. You may also know this fort as Spitsand Fort, Spit Sand Fort or simply Spit Fort. Spitbank Fort is located off the coast of Portsmouth on the South coast of England. Spitbank is smaller than the two main Solent forts, Horse Sand Fort and No Man’s Land Fort. Its main purpose was as a further line of defence for ships that made it past the two main forts.
The 3 Solent forts, Spitbank Fort, No Man’s Fort and Horse Sand Fort were all put up for sale in July 2020. The forts could not reopen to the public due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the forts unique requirements in both transportation and sanitisation requirements.
